Comparing the range of reseach tools, methods and skill from task 1
My research project started from wikipedia where I found very basic information about my media hero; Gabriele Muccino. This was information such as his birth date, where he grew up, how old he is and so on.
Secondly I started to further my research and develop my knowledge of him by looking deeper into Muccino's interviews and news articles from the internet to understand more of who he is and how he first came about.
I used IMDb to find more of Gabriele's movies and tv shows. following up this research I furthered my study with youtube videos of Gabriele and interviews including him. I then took notes from these videos on information like his 'broken english' accent or the words he might use, whether he uses formal or informal language. This research helped me by understanding a little more about Gabriele and how he presents himself. I believe that researching my media hero by watching plenty of interviews and written articles was a good research method as I had learned a lot about how Gabriele may conduct himself and how he may be looked upon by other people. Gabriele's fans look upon him as an inspirational and well educated man. He is highly skilled in the directing industry and very intelligent as he had attended university for english literature which suggests he knows how to inform and speak to a crowd.
After creating a body of research about Gabriele from using such websites as wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriele_Muccino or IMDb http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0610831/ I know more in depth about where Gabriele originated from and his backgrounds before he became famous. Secondly I made a survey for the public to fill out. Some people decided they did not want to write, therefore I filled out the survey while the person told me their views and knowledge of each question. Others had filled out the survey themselves with my supervision so I knew that the information I was collecting was primary research as it was first hand observation. Next I analysed the results by creating a bar chart for every question on the survey to display the results which was then followed up by the analysis.
Over my time at college I have learnt that there are several different ways in order to collect data, for example you may collect data as Primary research. Primary research is research that you conduct yourself, for example if I wanted to find out the birth date of Gabriele Muccino then I would need to go and interview him to find out the knowledge from firsthand observation like interviewing him personally. Primary research is a valuable way of collecting data as you are finding out details of the person from them personally, this means there should be no mistakes or false information from collecting the data as primary research. The only negatives to Primary research would be having to put the time and effort into preparing questions for interviews or handing out questionnaires. You may even find yourself travelling to where the data may be.
Secondary research is research conducted from invaluable sources. These are second hand observation sources such as asking other people, reading leaflets or in my case looking through the internet. The positives to this research is that it is much quicker and easier to find the information you need within a click of a button, however this type of research may just be incorrect. Some brochures or internet websites may contain false information that is not true. many news article may exaggerate the truth a little or add in lies to make the source look more interesting. Most of my research is conducted by secondary research as it is the only sources I have access to, however I have also created surveys, bar charts and pictures to hand out the public using primary research. Here are some more secondary research sources I have used to gather factual information.
https://yourstory.com/2016/09/lessons-from-chris-gardner/ This website allowed me to collect quotes and tips from Gabriele when planning and coming up with ideas for new projects.
http://www.tribute.ca/people/gabriele-muccino/16139/ This website allowed me to collect factual information and details of Gabriele.
https://smilesaychizo.wordpress.com/2013/03/03/seven-pounds-inspirtation-at-its-finest/ This website allowed me to look at other people's point of views about the film Seven Pounds.

Quantitive research is research collected from interviews or questionnaires/surveys. Quantitive research could be supervised or non supervised data that is non biased research as this type of research is objective and uses closed questions to the public.
Qualitative research is research that is biased but not objective data. This means that this type of research uses open questions to the public from interviews, surveys or focus groups to get correct information.
Both quantitive and qualitive research is collected in the same way using similar techniques as it is the end result that differs between what type of research you are doing.
I learnt from Gabriele that to become a director in todays industry, you would need to become a very well mannered person, this means speaking appropriately when addressing fans or news reporters. Gabriele stands out from many other directors because of his work. Gabriele's work is different because he has given his films meaning and purpose which is easy to understand for his audience. If I wanted to be a director I know that I would have to be different and spontaneous, this means making my work different so that the audience can tell what films I may have directed. I would also need to build on my focus and confidence in order to present myself and my own work, as directors may be very demanding and bossy at times in order to get there vision across to the team and actors. As well as this, I know I would need to build on my understanding of filmmaking, cameras, editing and the essentials in order to direct the cameras in different scenes.
My media heroes research project has allowed me to build on my understanding of my media hero and be inspired by him. I now understand what it takes to become a successful director and to work in the media industry and I also know that if I wish to be just as successful as Gabriele, I would need to work extremely hard on building my skill level to the extend of other people in the industry.
