Learning Outcome 1 - Be able to analyse a Visual based problem
Within the Media Industry, there are many different outcomes and problems that may occur. Within my Factual production project, the main problem that I had come across was the extremely high number of teen pregnancies, particularly in this country. The BBC News has given evidence that "There were about 23 conceptions per 1,000 15 to 17-year-old girls in 2014, compared to a high of 55 in 1971". This shows that teen pregnancies between the ages of 15 to 17 year olds are increasing by the year which means that teen pregnancies are becoming more and more of an issue as this generation is making teen pregnancies more common. The reason behind my project focusing on teen pregnancies is because of how deeply I feel about this subject area. When I was in the last year of secondary school a girl named Charlotte whom was a member of many of the classes I attend, was pregnant due her early mock exams of that year. She was 15 nearly 16 and feel pregnant because of laziness, attention and the strive to become popular and fit in. She felt deeply wrong about her decision as she did not particularly want a baby at that age as her mum had sadly died earlier that year and her Dad is always busy with work therefore he can not be at home to look after a new born baby or they would have no money. I personally think that her actions was careless as she knew herself she had made the wrong choice, she missed out on too much school work and was not able to attend her GCSE exams due to not having the knowledge or being prepared for them. She now has to re-do the whole of year 11 again to even attempt her GCSE exams which by her careless attitude she may not want to concentrate or be able to unfold her true potential towards her schooling.
This story stuck with me deeply as I know there are plenty more stories out there just like Charlotte's where it changes their attitude, views and their whole entire lifestyle. I think that the reason for most teens get pregnant is due to the laziness of using or getting contraception, maybe not having enough money to buy contraception or not wanting to ask for it. Some teens maybe peer pressured into doing not what they want to but what will make them 'cool' and get the attention they want to fit in their social groups. Some teens are pregnant due to the pleasure of not using contraception or others may be due to simply wanting to settle down and have a baby, however the visions that young teens may have of babies and pregnancies may be not what they quite expected. I would like the outcome of this project to teach young teens the difference between their expectations of living life with a baby and the reality of it. I want to inform them of the struggles, dangers and the commitment needed to support a baby, this means missing out on studies, school or college which means less qualifications due to less knowledge. Not having enough money due to having to buy food, clothes, toys and accessories such as high chairs, bottles e.t.c and the impact that you may have on the baby. As your attitude may change due to fitting in various social groups for attention may have a big impact on the baby especially as you are young and may not know how to exactly treat or handle the baby. The simplest of accents and terms will be open for the baby to pick up which means when you grow older and more mature, you may have realised your young and reckless ways and you may wish you never put your baby in those situations as it has a big impact on the child.
I would love to research and find out more facts, figures and stories as I believe that my Factual production project could have a big impact on society and young teens. Maybe expanding young teens knowledge on this area and showing them plenty of stories and emotional interviews, may show them just how hard and big of an impact a child can have on your life.
To summarise my visual based problem, their are way too many teenage pregnancies out in today's society and I believe that this number should be decreasing year by year not increasing. I believe that young teens do not know what they are getting themselves into and need to learn.
Teen Pregnancy story:
This story shows the struggles and doubts that this young teen had when she first found out she was pregnant. Stories like this inspire me for this project as this is exactly some of the reasons in which I want to suggest help and advice to teens in need out there.
Solutions for my visual based problem:
I personally believe that there are multiple things that someone can do to stop a pregnancy. One solution could be to not have an intimate relationship at such young age as later on in life you may come to regret your decisions as you may have been pushed to far out of your comfort zone, if you feel you are ready to take your relationship to the next level and you sincerely love your partner and want to become intimate then maybe you could buy contraception to reduce the chance of pregnancy. You could take the morning after pill or various other pills or methods that reduce the chance of pregnancy. Of course you have the choice of abortion or care homes if you have the baby and do not feel you can cope but this would be something you would have to discuss with the father or your partner to go over all your decisions and make sure that you agree on one.
What other solutions are out there to reduce the risk of teen pregnancies?
This link shown above takes you to the NHS website where it gives you advice about everything you may have questions about or whether you would like to explore your options and gain advice on something.
The NHS is one of the major factors to go to when needing to expand your knowledge and options on a particular subject a the NHS varies with over 100 different subject areas. Here are some of them. The pregnancy section goes over teen pregnancies and allows teens to explore there possible options about what they can and cannot do. If you click on the link above, it will take you to the teens pregnancy page where it will give you information about babies, your next steps, apprenticeships, part time work, education, child day care and more. The NHS support is one of many solutions that helps with teen pregnancies where it gives out help and support for teens and people in need.
Three examples of a product that is similar to my own:
These three products that I have found on Youtube are very similar to my own as they convey the same feelings and emotion that I wish to create throughout my product. I wish to create a teenage pregnancy commercial which interviews either pregnant teens and parents or the publics views upon teen pregnancies and asks questions about what the public knows, what they think and their stories on people they know. I wish for my commercial to contain a narrative, strong emotion, facts and figures and plenty of shots and videos of different angles in the interview and flashbacks and maybe even time lapses of the public out in the open in street.
The first product is a video of a teenage girl interviewing her young mum about teenage pregnancy. The mum stated she was "16" when she had gotten pregnant and she and the father was terrified. This product has helped with my research and the overall outcome of my project as it has given me different views and a new look on things from a teenage mums perspective.
