Learning Outcome 1 - Be able to analyse an audio based problem
To start off my audio research, I watched many videos and films so that I was able to see how the clips and sequences link the audio to the visuals. I have learnt that both the visuals and the audio have to marry as they compliment each other well and if they are not equally complimented then the audience will lose the sense of purpose to the product. The sound effects and backing tracks is what sets the realistic atmosphere where the viewers can just entirely focus on the product and have no distractions as they may feel at home in the atmosphere presented to them on screen.
The first product that I researched to help with my animations audio and silent film audio was this one:
The first product shown is a small clip from the film 'Over the hedge'. The reason in which I am using this clip is to see how the sound effects, dialogue and backing tracks link to the visuals. This gives me a sense of what should go where and what music links in with the different tones and feels of the film.
An example of some of the sound effects used in this clip would be as the hedgehog is being hit by the car. The sound effect to this action is a CRASH as he hits the front window of the car. If we did not have the visuals to this clip, we wouldn't be able to clearly identify the actions in the corresponding sound effects which means there would be no animations and nothing for the audience to relate to. We could not link the sound effect to match an action as we do not know what the entire action is that is taking place.
This product teaches me how every little sound effect is crucial as it not only sets the realistic atmosphere of the sequence, but it also sets each and every character into place. It teaches the viewers about the characters as you can not only see every move they make but you can hear what they are doing to. For example, one of the main characters are waking down the pathway of her and her sisters house.
