Developments of my 5 year plan - Escape Studios
During the first term of this course, I went on a UCAS trip to London with the college which allowed me to see plenty of University's in the topics I am interested in. One of the University stalls really caught my eye, it had the whole corner of the big room to itself and covered the sides and floor with black material. It had lots of tables with macbook's showing people what they do, what you will be doing and other success stories of students there. The whole environment of their stall just deeply fascinated me, it was creative, imaginative and I loved every minute of being there. There was images in frames everywhere, magazines, news lines that they have starred in, previous passionate students that study or had been studying there and everyone was just really friendly. The lady I spoke to handed me a little leaflet of the University and a prospectus book. She told me all about the Undergraduate courses and what this could potentially develop into. At home, I looked further into the courses in the prospectus and online and found that they do these following Undergraduate courses:
The Art of Computer Animation
The Art of Video Games
The Art of Visual Effects
I then read up on these courses and saw what they have to offer.
The whole prospectus and University has such a passionate vibe and drive to it that it makes me so interested. I have plenty of prospectus's and have looked at other University's too as I do not mind the travel so much if it means I get to study in the best place possible. The drive, enthusiasm and excitement I get from this University is the reason why I am so passionate about going here after my 2 year course in Creative media at college. As of now, I do not know exactly which course I will be doing but I do know that I would like to finish to two years of my Creative Media Course then go to the Escape Studios University in London. Here is their online prospectus:
I also found out that in order to go to this University, I would need:
A portfolio of my professional work completed, showing my ability
At least two passes at A-level or equivalent
GCSE English and Maths at grade C
I have a grade C in Mathematics GCSE already, grade B in english literature GCSE and I am currently re-taking my GCSE in english Language. I am going on the higher paper and am aiming for a B grade (band 4). In the making of re-taking my English Language, I am going to try my hardest to complete my Creative media course at the best of my ability in order two achieve a pass in at least 2 A levels out of the 4. Along the way, I will be making my own portfolio to showcase my work that I am doing on the course and in my own time to practice what I love doing which will consist of; Adobe Premiere pro projects, After Affects projects, Adobe Photoshop skills, maybe scripting and storyboarding of my pre-production and lastly I am beginning to create my own animated characters using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Character Animator. I will be developing my learning on my college course and through friends and tutorials online. Hopefully by 2019 I would have developed my skill and knowledge of video editing and animation in order to go to my chosen University.
I looked at several other University's to see their entry requirements and they mostly consisted of having Maths and English GCSE at grade C or above, 112 UCAS points which I hope for, and at least 2 A levels. I hope for at least a Merit and 4 A levels on this course. The different University's I looked at have said that it is okay if you had to retry or re-take English Language but they expect you to be a Band 4 which is a grade B at the end. At the minute, all three courses that this University have to offer interest my massively although I believe that I would like to look more into Visual Effects and maybe Character animation. Over the past two years of the course I am in, I hope to build on my confidence, Independence, skill and knowledge as I have a very creative and imaginative mind but as of yet, I am not able to put my ideas into action as I am very new to video editing and animation. I would love to get more stuck into my specific interests and develop on my skill in this area, I am very determined to do this and believe that I could attend this University in the future. In the mean time, I would also be trying to find even more work experience to build on my knowledge and confidence in the industry.
