YEAR 2 PORTFOLIO
Preparing for progression in Creative Media Production
This is my 5 year plan I made last year for my career prospects:

This is my new updated 5 year plan starting from this year.

Year 1
Year one of my plan will be me completing my second year on my Creative Media Production course at MidKent college. I want to complete this course with at least 3 merits if not, I would like a triple distinction. I would like to of gained confidence and friends, built my skill in filming, editing and presenting but mostly being able to create video and photo manipulation art work. Including graphics, art work pieces and basic sequence editing and after effects.
During this year, I will also being adding to my work experience I had last year and gain some more knowledge, worked with my own clientele and gained contacts in the industry. I will also being creating my own portfolio and showreel for University.

Year 2
In year 1, I would of already done my primary and secondary research in depth at all the possible Universities I want to go to and I would of applied for many of them. By which time I would of decided which Universities I want to turn down and which one I would like to go to. This would be the first year of my undergraduate degree course in the university of my choice most likely doing a VFX, motion graphic or video editing course. I really like video editing sequences or music videos so it will be doing something within the editing industry. Maybe a little filming too. As of yet, I do not know which university or course I want to do, only the area in which I like so it will be doing something around these subject courses.

Year 3
Year 3 will be the second year of my 3 year degree course at university possibly in London. During this year, I would have gained lots of contacts and links within the Industry when on work experience and part time work being a runner or junior, I would of gained contacts within my class for present and future, I would of built my confidence and skill again and become more advanced in what I want to do.

Year 4
This will be my final year doing the degree course as an undergraduate. I would of built on my skill at university, work experience, part time jobs in the industry where I will be working my way up positions and I would have gained a lot more experience of what I am doing and skill to be able to create better and more professional products such as advertisements, art work, album, gaming and photo covers, video editing and trailers, short films, visual and special effects and much more. By this time, I would have a much better and bigger showreel portfolio for potential high career aspects, working my way up to higher positions in the media industry.

Year 5
I would like to start a masters course at university. I would like to have a lot of experience, contacts in the industry and from people on my courses and classes that I was in from college, my degree course and masters, and finally I want to pass my masters class at the highest possible grade I can achieve. Meaning I will have a lot of qualifications under my belt, a lot of experience within work and in the industry, a lot of practice and developed skill from the past few years. I will then be looking to get better work, starting from the runner junior jobs to manager roles or higher. For which company or career exactly, I am not sure but I would love to take a look more into VFX and animation.

What are their plans: Finish the second year of her creative media course and pass with a triple distinction. Then go to university to study Visual and special effects. Maybe do a masters class after an undergraduate degree.

How are they going to do it: Get a triple distinction A level at the end of the course by keeping up with work and completing to the best of her ability, prepare for university by working on her own projects in her own time to build skill and create a portfolio showreel for university. Become more independent, do things for herself and present and be in front of the camera more.

Whom are they going to contact for help with their 5-year plan: She will be contacting all of her friends and family to get their opinions of what they say as they are a big influence on her. She will also be contacting her personal tutor at college for advice (Ross and Lee) and finally, she will be contacting different Universities for what they do and can offer.

What primary and secondary research will need to be undertaken for this: She will need to research into what available universities there are that do visual effects, she will need to research how she gets into these universities so she knows her aspiration grades of what she needs to get at A level and whether it is possible for her to get in. She will need to compare universities for what they have, whether pearsons college universities such as Escape Studios, is going to be good for her or not. She will need to travel and look around these universities for what they have to offer, whether she feels at home there, whether she likes the tutors or not and whether she thinks visual effects is for her.

How could their plans be improved: I think that the best thing she can do is just go and have a look at multiple universities. That way she will get a real feel of what the university and the course is like while also being able to ask multiple questions in person. It may be little things such as the walls or rooms that she may not like which was not shown on the website. This can have a bad impact if she does not like it after starting on her first day. It needs to be looked into more.

Shown here is my newly upgraded 5 year plan. My plans have slightly changed as I am not going to university straight away therefore, my 5 year plan has changed from what it was.
Practice interview
For this practice interview, I wrote down a few questions and short paragraphs and read over it a few times before recording. I did this so I knew what I was saying and how I was going to say it so there would be less errors when it came to filming. The piece of paper helped as it prompted me when I was stuck.

This practice interview shown above is to practice my communication methods when reaching out to clientele as a freelancer. The interviewing video acts as an advertisement to show who I am, what I do and what I can offer if any clientele would like commissions off of me. I believe it went very well as I feel I am more confident in front of a camera and that I would be ready to make a interview video for my website in the future. I like the natural editing techniques I have used here as my name and tagline of what I do looks professional and well laid out. I got this from Werner Herzog who had an interview about his master classes. This video I thought was well edited and looked professional therefore, I tried to duplicate some of these slight editing skills to make my interview have those finishing touches look. I also love his confident tone of voice and how the background looks busy yet professional.

The Werner Herzog interview where I got my inspiration, is shown below.

What would I change?
I dislike how I am facing the interviewee whilst my chair is facing the camera. This does not make sense as the audience do not know whether I am talking to them as my chair and body is facing them, or to the interviewee. One other thing is that I am staring directly into one spot which does not look natural. If I was talking to an interviewee, I would be a lot more natural. My posture would be facing the interviewee where the camera can also see and my voice would not be as harsh. It would be much more natural rather than formal and sounding fake.

What do I like about this video?
I like the composition of the video. I like how technical the scene looks with the computer and printer on my desk. It fits the nature of the video as a freelancer as I have all my equipment and desk set up. I also like the warm lighting that makes the room and desk have a warm touch to show its home. I am very glad that I am not dead centre of the video with no background as that would of been boring.

UCAS Fair London - University options
As part of my future unit, I will need to look into different progression routes for after I finish this course.
I am aiming to achieve a triple distinction on my final year of this course to give me many university options. I already have my 8 GCSE's from A*-C including Maths and English, this is a good start for me as I will be able to pick the university that is right for me rather than ones that except lower grades.
Universities I have looked at such as Brunel University London, require those 5 GCSE's from A*-C with Maths and English as well as a triple distinction at A level. This will be a challenge for me on the final year of my college course but it is one I am willing to take on due to liking the university very much.

It is the second time I have been to the UCAS Fair in London and it has allowed me to collect lots of primary research for my future progression routes. Here are a few of the universities that really interested me.

Brunel University London - http://www.brunel.ac.uk/
http://www.brunel.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/visual-effects-and-motion-graphics-bsc
The entry requirements for the 'Visual Effects and Motion Graphics BSc' course is 5 GCSE's at grades A*-C including Maths and English. For a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma course, it requires you to have a DDD grade as well as the GCSE's. They also want to see a portfolio of your work from the past 12 months to see your development.

Shown above is all what I could find of graduates work from this course. I think the work looks creative however, I have seen much better portfolios from universities such as Escape Studios. The graduates work from this video does not seem to eye catching compared to other universities.

The unique selling points of this university is the grade requirements. It is a challenge for me but I want a university that will reward me for my efforts. I do not want to work hard for the grades I get when I can walk in the same university with no qualifications. I would like a university like this one that has high requirements of the students so that everyone there works hard and wants to do well.

The fee for UK/EU students is £9,250; £1,000 placement year. The fee for international students is £18,000 full-time.
http://www.brunel.ac.uk/study/admissions/documents/pdf/Additional-Costs-2018.pdf
The link above shows all additional costs to the undergraduate programs. Theatre and trips for my program I am looking into can cost up to an extra £200 for the three years. It does not say about tuition fees.

"We provide self-catering accommodation for approximately 4538 students in 33 halls of residence, which include 116 studio flats for co-habiting couples." This link shows accomdation costs. http://www.brunel.ac.uk/life/accommodation/rents-and-contract-lengths
For a en-suite hall, it is £141.82 per week and £5,389.16 in total.
For a standard hall, it is £108.16 per week and £4,109.70 in total.
For a Isambard studio flat, it is £212.03 per week and £8, 057.14 in total.
For a Faraday and Fremlin flat, it is £249.48 per week and £9, 480.24 in total.
For the Saltash, Galbraith and Maria Grey flats, it is £257.18 per week and £9, 772.84 in total.
For a mill hall, it is £134.75 per week and £5,120.50 in total.
The contracts are from Sunday 17th September until 10am on Sunday 10th June 2018. I will be able to afford the standard hall at a price of £108.16 by having my own part time job in Mcdonalds near the university and accommodation in London and by having a bursary allowing us me to pay slightly less due to my families income. Hopefully, if I get a triple distinction in my last year at college, I will also get a larger fund for university.

http://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/information/student-fees
The three bands for tuition fees are;
£14, 100
£15, 400 and
£17, 200.
Due to my family being on very low wage, I believe that we would get maximum fund which would help cover my fee for this university.

There are disability rooms for people hard of hearing or visually impaired. Rooms with disability access and many services which offers 1-1 help and advice for people in need of it. There are also special disability accommodations. http://www.brunel.ac.uk/life/accommodation/students-with-disabilities

The employability rate for after this course is growing at a 16% rate per year.
"Recent graduates from this course have gone on to work for the BBC, Wurmsers TV Graphics, Philips, Sky, VentureThree and a variety of design companies.
There is a relaxed and friendly relationship between students and staff at Brunel and we take a genuine interest and pride in the success of our students and graduates."

I personally really like the look of this university. It certainly will be a challenge to get a triple distinction in my last year at college but I believe that if I work hard enough, I will be able to achieve it and get into this university. The visual effects and motion graphics course certainly looks interesting and I will definitely be visiting this university in person. The downside to this university is that their are not many courses based around visual effects and post production. It is mainly core subjects rather than practical ones. Other universities have much more gear and equipment and have plenty of courses to chose from in this field.

The blog post shown above is my understanding on the key skills needed for employment. Key skills such as communication, dress sense, passion and listening, are essential for employment and interviews due to the employer judging you on their first impression. First impression matters so you have to act like you really want the job and are prepared in order to get it. This has influenced my progression by being able to identify what I need to work on like my presentation skills and how I can develop these skills in order for employment in the industry.
I will work on my weaknesses which are presentations and communications by being more confident, moving about more in my presentations and preparing what I am going to say more rather than being on the spot making myself nervous.
The blog post shown above is my research into the showreels from my favourite video editing artists. I have picked these 3 showreels out to my favourite due to liking their style and uniqueness. These showreels have influenced me by me wanting to eventually be able to get to that stage where I am just as skilled as they are in the video editing industry. This has helped my progression massively by allowing me to set myself goals for where I want to be in the future.
Note: Every time I am looking to applying for a part time job, I adapt my cv to adapt the time and job I am going for so that it makes more sense.
Having plenty of qualifications on your cv is always a good sign. Even if you do not particularly need qualifications for the part time job you are doing, having qualifications on your cv anyway, makes you look professional, smart and enthusiastic. Like you want to do the work and you are committed to it. If you do not have any qualifications on your cv, you may be given the impression of lazy or having thee 'don't care' attitude which is not a good look to the employer. They may put your cv at the bottom of the pile.
3 Specific goals and Aspirations

-
Getting a triple distinction in Creative Media Production at college. Getting work experience and clientele

-
Becoming more confident and skilled in VFX, after effects, filming, Photoshop, logo creation, Unreal Engine and video editing

-
Getting a degree, graduating from university and getting a masters. Beginning to work in the media, VFX industry.
Communication Methods
Research and evaluate the communication methods needed for your progression routes.
Demonstrate the use of these skills in a range of situations, such as practice interviews - Open and closed questions

Different Communication methods needed for my progression:

-
Body Language - You want to talk loud enough for the clientele to hear you and you want to have the right posture. Don't slouch or you will seem uninterested and casual.

-
Online Communication - This is texting, emailing or anything on social media. You probably won't get a reply straight away so be aware of that when you email or text.

-
Oral Communication - This is talking to someone directly. Not in person but through social media or applications such as on the phone, Facetime, Skype, WhatsApp etc. (be sensible and professional with this. Sometimes you may use Skype for business agreements but be professional at all times. Do not phone on WhatsApp or other social medias such as Oovoo as this can be seen as unprofessional.

-
Advertising - Online, Tv, press

-
Face to face/verbal communications - Going somewhere for a business agreement or signing a contract or an interview. This may be more time consuming as you have to meet them somewhere.

-
Written communication - a letter, contract, agreement etc. It is anything that you are writing or signing to be sent off

Body Language was definitely demonstrated when I was doing my interview. Having the right posture is what sets the mood of the interview. It shows your confidence and your interest when talking about what it is that you do. For example, for my progression routes, if I was in an interview to get into university or for a job then I would not be on my phone or slouching over the table as I would not look enthusiastic enough for the job or university. Hand gestures are a good sign of enthusiasm. Don't go over the top with hand gestures but sometimes it creates meaning. If you push out your chest too much, being a woman then you may also imply the wrong meanings. I demonstrated my body language in my practice interview by sitting up straight to look confident in what I am saying.

This interview of Werner Herzog, demonstrates what I am looking to do for my practice interview as I love the text that is shown so the audience knows who is talking. I love his body language as it is not over the top but demonstrates meaning as if he knows what he is talking about as well as confidence.

I will be using online communication to find work experience placements and clientele for this upcoming year. I will be going on the internet and finding different people and placements such as Chris Newberry and emailing them to see if they have any upcoming work I could join in on for experience. I will have to wait for their reply because this is a professional way of communicating them if I do not know where the business is placed and do not have a number to call.

Oral communication is a good way of contacting the business, freelancer or company to ask if they have any part time work going, if you have any questions about the business, or just wanted to speak to them personally. Oral communication is quick and easy although sometimes you are left on hold while they take another call. Sometimes, interviews and business meetings are done using oral communication on social media as it allows people in different areas to have a meeting without having to drive along way or not being able to make it. However, sometimes the signal may be bad so it may be hard to get through to the group of people you are talking with. In university and my future career, I would use oral communication a lot if I am off sick at work or college or am working away where I can not easily go into work for a meeting. I also may use oral communication to communicate with my friends to ask about work or college if I am stuck.

Advertising can come in many different ways, shapes and forms. It could be that you have your own merchandise to advertise your brand or community on youtube. You could be advertising your music so you have album covers so people recognise your music by the cover art. You may be advertising a new game and you may use billboards to advertise it, signs, clothing, video adverts on youtube or broadcasted on tv and busses. You could be advertising a social group or party by home made flyers that you hand out. Advertising can come in so many different ways, shapes and forms but it is very beneficial as it allows for your product or something to be promoted as more people will come to recognise it and notice it. I will be using advertising to show my work for potential clientele. I will be doing this by creating my own website and social media pages such as Instagram to give the public a little taster into what I can do and what I offer incase they want a commission off me. In the future, I may decide I want to sell my work so social media sites, word of mouth and my website, is a good way to advertise my work for people to see it and recognise it, giving me clientele.

Verbal communication will be demonstrated in the practice interview I am creating. Verbal communication is used within most situations. For example, university. Talking and discussing with tutors similar to college. Or having a face to face interview with clientele or freelancers. During college and university, I will be suing verbal communication when working in filming groups. Communicating with actors and others to help with a project and I will be using verbal communication to present to my clientele and classmates for future projects.

Lastly, written communication will be used for the pre-production of my projects during college, university, potential work experience, client work and my future career. Written communication is everywhere. It allows us to make notes, make storyboards and scripts and text on pieces of paper to be given to actors or clients. It could be when your in college, to note everything down you know to then be given to someone for marking, it could be to leave a note to client or business partner if they are away. It could be written agreements and deals for the client to sign. For example, terms and conditions. Written communication can be very important. Especially within the media industry.

Contacts that I will be talking with for potential work experience this year:

-
Chris Newberry: Director and co-founder of Wildwood Media (I worked with Chris last year for drone flying promoting the college and different studio set ups also promoting the college. The trailer came out very well)

-
Durty: Video production, 3D animation and VFX (They are in Maidstone which is in easy access and also has partnerships with the college. I would love to go here for some work experience)

-
Video production for Brogdale Collection: I will be creating a video to promote who they are and what they do to a much wider audience than they have already. "Brogdale Collections is a small charity with a wide audience which operates on an extremely tight budget. In order to promote what we do and to gain greater awareness of our work we recognise that in a visual and digital age that a video would be the ideal format to help get our message across to the public, both in social media on our website and at Brogdale."
Interviewer questions and answers

What is your filming or editing style?
My filming style contains longer shots, less cuts which helps keep the illusion of the audience being engaged in the film rather than just watching it. It builds tension as you are focused on the sloe up of a characters face looking around the corner. You see only their facial expressions before the action takes place. I creatively make this my filming style as I do not like to give away the main change of events too soon, i like the tension building technique.

What is your favourite project you have created?
My favourite project I have worked on, I would say is the movie mashup. I love how the seamless transitions flow, to create a story's out of multiple films.

How long does it roughly take to complete your project?
It roughly takes me around 3-4 weeks for me to get my projects completed. I mainly focus my time on the editing rather than anything else, because it is what I enjoy the most, and it is what knits the project together. The pre-production stages of a project usually doesn't take me too long as I do plan and observe my time wisely. Especially when my strengths lies within editing.

What is your favourite genre to film?
My favourite genre to film would be action adventure. I love the long shots less cuts technique and I feel that this technique works extremely well when put into this genre. Usually, filmmakers use short and frequent shots when it comes to action adventure films. However, if taken time, I think my technique of the long shots and less cuts, may just work just as well within a project.

What makes you stand out as a competing freelancer?
Editing. I spend the majority of my time on the editing and knitting of the end product s I personally feel that the editing is the making or breaking point of the project. I feel that the editing stages are the most important as it is how the audience and clientele see the product. This has a big impact on the final result.

What are your weaknesses as a freelancer?
My biggest weaknesses with videography is the deadlines. I see myself as a bit of a perfectionist. Meaning, I am never fully satisfied with my work as I would see the slightest touches that people normally wouldn't notice. This is sometimes what sets me back when editing as I would always focus on the littlest details meaning more time and unneeded effort is going into the product when the clientele needs it to be sent off.

What are your strengths as a freelancer?
I also see myself as a very creative person. I will always look for different ways in which something can be filmed or edited for the clientele's best interest. I also see my job more as a hobby rather than work because I love it so much. Meaning I would put as much time and effort into it as I possibly could.

What was your last clients feedback?
My previous client was Maidstone Community Support Centre. I created a short video to promote their business as they was very un-recognised and out of the way. After I made them a promotional video, clientele came to recognise the heart of the company meaning people finally knew who they are and where they are.

Ravensbourne University - https://www.ravensbourne.ac.uk/
The course I will be looking to do in this university would be a BA (Hons) Editing and Post Production. This course is a maximum length of 3 years full time. After completion of a degree on this course, it is optional to continue my studies to a MA in Visual Effects which is the exact career pathway I wish to follow. This is definitely something I will be considering.
The requirements of the Editing and Post Production BA is to have 5 GCSE's at grade C or above including Maths and English. You also need either 2 A levels at a grade C or a Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma which I assume is just a pass the same as A levels. I think that I will be able to meet these standard requirements of this course. The course also would like to see a portfolio of your development process.

Shown above is the digital film showreel made by students on the course. I was actually really impressed by this showreel as it looks very professional and has been put together well. It looks very creative by the shots and camera movements used and it shows that the university is really good for the students to be able to produce content like this. This personally really impressed me. It is much better than the Brunnel university showreel in my opinion.

The unique selling points of this university is the fact that the students seem determined and ambitions into what they want to do. The building and equipments is out of this world and the whole university is geared around filming and editing rather than only having one course that does it.

They will be looking for experimentation, my progress I have already made, commitment, passion, ambition and industry awareness. The portfolio should roughly be 15-20 pages. Make it relevant to the course I want to do. Explain my roles in each clip, make it creative.

This video tells us exactly what makes Ravensbourne different to other universities in the area. For example, Chris Thompson; Senior adviser for Enterprise, he tells us how Ravensbourne really helped him and gave him advice into his next steps for the future instead of the university just leaving him to it. The university also has connections with companies and Institutions in the industry so it allows the students to have connections and opportunities before leaving the university. So that they have employment waiting for them. Ravensbourne really helps and advises the students into what they want to do and how they can get there.

In my opinion, I really like the university because of how all the equipment and courses are to do with what I want to do in the future. Instead of other universities where they have one or two courses to do with filming and editing and the rest are completely different subjects that the university gets funded for. Instead, all of the university fund at Ravensbourne is all on filming and editing equipment as that is what the university is about which I personally really like. All the feedback I have found from the university is always really positive too which makes me like the university all the more.

Ravensbourne was at the UCAS fair I had gone to too. I got to look around their stall they had made for the university and I got to collect primary research of the university by looking at students work, talking to students and lecturers there. They all seemed very nice and friendly and the pictures and videos of their work they showed me, was really quite impressive. I asked if they have always been able to film and edit that well and there answer was no. Most students hasn't had the opportunity to do what they want to do so Ravensbourne picks you up to speed with everyone else within the first year. No matter your background.

The video shown above shows an overview of the 3 year practical filmmaking course at MetFilm school. It gives you an insight of what the course is, what you learn and the equipment and studios that they have. This is really beneficially in order to identify whether the university is for you or not. I believe that this had a positive impact on me when watching this video as the equipment and studios they have, look very professional and industry based which is what really intrigued me. Most universities only have one room and limited equipment due to doing filmmaking as an additional course rather than the whole university revolving around filmmaking. It means the university has a bigger fund for filmmaking and editing. This is what I look for in a university.

Social Media:
Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/MetFilmSchool
Twitter - https://twitter.com/MetFilmSchool
YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/metfilmschool
Their Twitter account pacifically, shows their upcoming industry studios, events, open days and more. The images on Twitter really helps me imagine myself being there and studying there due to seeing what the rooms and building looks like to know whether it appeals for me or not.

For me, the selling points of the university would most definitely be the equipment and studios catered for the filmmaking subjects. The fact that the university is all about filmmaking and editing courses, i means the students and teachers there will have the same interests as me meaning it will make my time there more enjoyable.

One thing that works very well with this cv, is that the title and headlines stands out. This adds colour professionally to the cv, while also informing the reader what parts on the cv are talking about what which is organised better instead of having a lump of heavy text that does not look appealing to read.

Having plenty of paragraphs is also good because it looks like there is less to read. If the employer has been given a lot of cv's, he does not want to waste his time reading every word on the cv especially if it is just one big paragraph of writing. This is boring and dull.

Only having two colours on the cv, looks more professional and allows for things to stand out. If there was lots of colour, nothing would really stand out to the reader. The fact that there is only black and blue on the cv, the blue stands out to the reader because it is a brighter colour.

Having my name, mobile number, email and address at the top of the cv, is also key due to the employer immediately being abele to see the most crucial information without having to hunt for it.

Showing the employer what you are currently doing and have done towards your future career, also shows your eagerness and passions instead of doing nothing. It is also good to go to multiple university visits and events to be sure which university is for you if any. Rather than just playing for any. Employers will see this and see your passion for what you want to do and will think you work hard in which ever jobs you choose to do.

Beginning to work full time in the media and VFX industry doing freelancing to get my name out there and partnering with other companies.
(2025- ongoing)
Changing a few jobs while also doing freelancing to gain work experience and partnering with other VFX companies and film. I will be working my way up positions in the inudstry. Potentially to Head VFX in the film.
(on going)
My main career prospect:
To work in the VFX industry. Hopefully for film but I would also love to do the colour grading and video editing of music videos and advertisements or trailers.
Recently I have also loved illustration therefore, if after my apprenticeship I learn to love graphics and Illustration more, I may want to do this at university instead.

The idea of this cv is to just be shown in the creative industries where I can show my passion for video editing and illustration. A creative cv will allow me to gain more opportunities due to the the industry looking for a creative cv. This creative cv has all the needed information on there yet is being presented in a creative way.

The blue represents media because of how most media companies are presented in the colour blue.

To contrast this, I have chosen the colour pink due to it being bright and energetic to catch the attention of the audience.

The writing is white due to it standing out from a darker colour on the background

Overall, I believe this cv to be very useful in the industry due to it having minimal writing to look more catchy but still having the right information on. If I were to do it again, I would probably chose more professional colour rather than them being bright.
This is the second cv I made which looks far more professional than the first one.
The white background stands out more with the minimal colour
I like the levels that are filled up to how much of the skill or qualification I have.
I like my own personalisation of my picture on it. Makes it stand out more
I like how much more in depth I have gone on every section of writing.

Evaluation Of Presentation
For task 4 (3.1) in our progression project, we have to present ourself and a portfolio or showreel of our work, to a panel of judges that will critically reflect and give us feedback from. We first had a practice presentation in front of our tutor; Lee Gavin and 3 students, one student of our choosing so we could get the rough idea of how we should be when doing a presentation. Lee made us all feedback forms that we filled out when watching a presentation which allowed us to improve before the final presentation that was in front of two people from the industry as well as both of our tutors; Ross Butter and Lee Gavin and the whole class.
For my presentation, I talked all about how I first got into media, illustration and video editing and where I plan to go with it. This is the basis of my presentation as it is the structure that will start my leading career. I know I want to go to university after my apprenticeship and this is what was stated when I was presenting my work.

I think that my presentation was effective due to the audience being able to listen and take on board the points that I was trying to make. I know this by the feedback I got from my audience. They all had said that they know what I want to do in the future, where I want to be and how I am going to get there. So this means that I had made this clear to them. This makes my presentation effective due to it completing the task that the presentation was made to do which was inform the audience about my career plans.

I believe that the presentation really allowed me to grow in my confidence when speaking about something I was passionate about, it allowed me to work on my body language, speaking and listening skills. It taught me how to take criticism that could work on for next time and it also taught me how to present my work in a more professional yet creative way. Having the practice presentation in front of Lee Gavin and 3 students with 1 student of our choice first allowed me to improve before my final presentation but I think both of them equally gained my confidence when speaking in front of a group of people.

For my next presentation, I would like to improve my confidence further by moving about a lot more rather than standing in one position, point and use more body language to make my point come across better, communicate with my audience more by asking questions and picking people out to answer, make them ask me questions and chose what they prefer in my work, be more organised and know whats on my slides and lastly make my presentation look more presentable and visually attractive.

In comparison to my final presentation, Adam Hayne's presentation I thought was the best out of the others I had seen. I liked the way that Adam kept up his confidence throughout the whole presentation, I liked the way he spoke to the back wall so everyone could hear him loud and clear, he kept his presentation exactly on 5 minutes which shows how much prep he has had before the presentation but most importantly, I loved the video showreel he done of chapters of his work. The showreel was short and sweet, it showed the most important parts of his work that he is proud of, it really drew the audience in due to it getting better and better and keeping upbeat with the music choice he went with and it really caught the audience's attention. If I were to do my presentation again, I would spend a lot more time on it, make sure I was prepared and I would definitely make a showreel that is professional and creative and got upbeat with the tone of the song just like Adam's did.
For another comparison, I really liked how Chris's presentation had a few showreels that he showed the audience too. His typography video edit really got the audience listening and engaged due to the song again being upbeat and catchy. This really drew in the attention of the audience. In comparison to my presentation, I only showed a few pieces of my latest illustration work but I did not show a video and seeing as it is a Media course and I love video editing, that would have been a good idea.
For my last comparison when watching other members of the class do their presentation, I thought Sophie's presentation had some really good communication skills. She used a good portion of body language to be able to connect with her audience but most importantly, she did not just stand in one place for her presentation to look boring. She actually got up and moved about and sounded passionate when speaking. She pointed to the board to show us what part she is talking about. She covered every point that was on the board and really connected and talked with us the audience rather than just at us. I like that. Whereas my presentation was mainly talking at the audience rather than with them due to me not moving around or using body language much as I was nervous.

Another good point about my presentation was that my time keeping was very good. My presentation was a total of 3 minutes and 45 seconds out of the 5 minutes time slot. I believe that this is very good time keeping as my previous practice presentation was just over 2 minutes. This is an improvement and I believe the best way to get my time keeping spot on is to practice and time myself so I will be able to speak within the designated time.

Critically analysing my feedback from the creative professional panel:

Chris Newberry
How well did I speak? (Volume/ Pitch / Pace / Projection)
Clear and well

Was my body language positive and engaging, or did I fidget and distract?
Slight fidget but you grew in confidence

Did you think that I came across as confident whilst presenting, how?
Yes - Well spoken about your work. You showed passion and knowledge when speaking about your work and plans

Would you say I prepared my presentation? Was I knowledgable about the content?
Yes and yes

Did I face the audience to deliver the presentation or did I read off the board?
Yes

Does the presentation flow between each point? Was I able to speak to the time and scale?
Yes, Yes

How was my enthusiasm? Did you feel engaged during the presentation?
It was good and I felt engaged.
However, I would like to see you more confident and happy about your work and talent. If you believe in yourself, you will keep getting better and go far.

Was the information given in the presentation detailed and relevant?
Yes. Very good. However, I would have liked to see video work. You said it was your main area of interest but didn't show any.

Was my presentation clear and structured well?
Yes

Do you think I'm on track to achieve my future aspirations? Are they attainable?
Yes - You have a good and level headed view of whats ahead

Do you think that my presentation was styled professionally?
Yes

Was there any mistakes or errors that could have been avoided?

Is there anything you would do differently?
Be more confident. Be happy and proud in what you can do and Will do

Critically evaluating Chris Newberry's (Director of Wildwood Media) feedback from my presentation, I can proudly say that I did pretty well because of his lovely feedback that I received. As we can see by his feedback, Chris believes in me and my work even if the presentation did not always show the work that I am into. I believe that I can learn a lot from Chris due to him saying the points he likes and dislikes. The main point he said that he did like was how real life my presentation was. Everything I want to do, he said that I will do and I will achieve. To improve my presentation, next time I would make a video showreel and show more of my video work.

Fairly well, could have been more passionate
Body Language?
Fairly closed but did engage the audience
Confident?
Could be improved but did engage the audience
Prepared
There was some preparation but a showreel would have been better
Delivery
OK, needed examples and explanations
Flow
Some good flow
Enthusiasm
Lacking, need to be more passionate about own work and yourself
Detailed and relevant
Lacked video examples (what you are interested in) but had some details
Structured
Structure was clear
Future Aspirations
Not detailed enough to show a real understanding
Professional
Created own slides and came across well
Mistakes/errors
Repeated image on aims slide
Improvements
More examples of the kinds of work you have created and want to be involved with

Critically analysing Ross's feedback, I needed to show more of what I am into which is the video editing side of my productions, I need to be more passionate and show a showreel. Showreel's in my case would look really good on my presentation due to the videos being what I am into the most. The good points of Ross's feedback, states my presentation being colourful and creative due to me having my own title I had made in photoshop rather than a default one. I just need more examples of the work I have done and want to be involved with.

Lee Gavin
Time - 3.43

How well did I speak? (Volume / Pitch / Pace / Projection)
quiet, but spoke and projected well

Was my body language positive and engaging, or did I fidget and distract?
played with lanyard

Did you think that I came across as confident whilst presenting, How?
Yes

Would you say I prepared my presentation? Was I knowledgeable about the content?
Yes - very much prepared

Did I face the audience to deliver the presentation or did I read off the board?
Spoke off to the side, rather than to the audience

Does the presentation flow between each point? Was I able to speak to the time scale?
Yes. 3.43

How was my enthusiasm? Did you feel engaged during the presentation?
Yes

Was the information given in the presentation detailed and relevant?
Not all - The games info section was probably not needed

Was my presentation clear and structured well?
Yes

Do you think I'm on track to achieve my future aspirations? Are they attainable?
Yes - Subject knowledge was there, but practical work was not

Do you think that my presentation was styled professionally?
Some text looked out of place. Layout was poor in some places

Was there any mistakes or errors that could have been avoided?
Talking too much about theory

Is there anything you would do differently?
Why didn't you show video work, if that is the field wanting to go into?

Critically analysing Lee's feedback, again, I need to show more relevant work rather than Illustration as it is not the only thing I love and I should have created a professional/creative showreel to completely show of and portray my skills. I need to be more enthusiastic and confident while presenting and I believe this will come with time and practice and finally, I need to focus a little more on my spacings and layout of presentation. I could have put more effort into it and made sure it was not poor in places.

Other Creative Media Professional
How well did I speak? )Volume / Pitch / Pace / Projection)
Quiet needed to project more

Was my body language positive and engaging, or did I fidget and distract?
needs more positivity. Fidgeted with lanyard

Did you think that I came across as confident whilst presenting, how?
No

Would you say I prepared my presentation? Was I knowledgeable about the content?
Yes (could have explained further)

Did I face the audience to deliver the presentation or did I read off the board?
A bit of both

Does the presentation flow between each point? Was I able to speak to the time scale?
It did but ended each slide abruptly

How was my enthusiasm? Did you feel engaged during the presentation?
Lacking. Be more positive about your work

Was the information given in the presentation detailed and relevant?
to a degree

Was my presentation clear and structured well?
Not clear but structured okay

Do you think I'm on track to achieve my future aspirations? Are they attainable?
Didn't really take out what these were

Do you think that my presentation was styled professionally?
Personal to you and had a bit of flare

Was there any mistakes or errors that could have been avoided?

Is there anything you would do differently?
Speak up/ research slides more/ take more time

Lastly, in analysis of the fort professional on the panel, I believe that overall it was good feedback. He noticed how I made n effort to change the title and make it my own, change the colour scheme and make the images black and white with borders except from the images that were my own. To improve, I needed to be more enthusiastic, speak up a little more and talk to the back of the room so that everyone will hear me and take notice of what I am saying, and be more positive about my work. Move around, be excited, be proud of how far I have come and the work I have produced.

In summary, I believe that all of my presentation feedback was fair and I am happy to of received it. I believe that my presentation went well due to me not being confident and being able to stand up in front of 30 people and talk and I believe it could be improved for next time. If I had prepared the presentation more then I would know exactly what I am saying and how to say it, plus I would of had time to make my own showreel and intrigue the audience before I even start the presentation. These are valid points and have helped me be better for the future.

Keeno. You don't have to use powerpoint.

Ross's powerpoint presentation really helped me to develop my skills within presentation due to him talking to us about where we all went wrong and how we can improve. I believe that every one of Ross's points were valid and I will definitely reflect on this for the next time I do a presentation. I believe my confidence will grow the more I practice and do presentations but I believe moving and engaging the audience will also help my confidence due to talking to them directly rather than being all alone talking with them staring at me.
