Gabriele Conte
Even though Gabriele is a YouTuber who does challenge videos and vlogs, his skill in video editing and cinematography, really inspires me. The way he films and puts the clips together to make a sequence. How he creates his own transitions and uses slo mo to add that vintage effect. How he even makes his honeymoon video old school by making sound effects and glitching effects for it to look like an old tape recording. It is mainly the transitions that inspires me. He has a very good eye for cinematography and this is what inspires me to film and edit my own videos, making memories and these video edits as a type of diary. To show my skill then and now but to also make a diary of a holiday or event in my life. This is what I would like to do. Travel the world with friends and make my own videos like these as a start in the media industry. I know from his previous vlogs that he uses the software Final Cut Pro to edit his videos but I think that Premiere Pro works just as well. In one of his vlogs that he has created, he talked about how video editing and films has always been very big hobby of his. He loves to create this video editing styled products that record the most important holidays and moments of his life but instead of recording it as a vlog, these unique shots and editing style, captures these moments in a new light and this is what he loves the most about creating the videos. He said that to learn and improve on his ability, he just watched YouTube videos after YouTube videos after YouTube videos. He watched many tutorials and products all on YouTube and this is how he learnt and was able to improve his ability. He also said how the camera you use doesn't always play a big part within the product but it is the way in which you film and edit that is what matters the most. You can improve your equipment over time but it is the talent and passion that he has followed which allowed him to get to where he is today with his products.

What I love most about Gabriele's videos is the transitions in which he uses to get from scene to scene. This is his unique style he uses for editing and this is how he progresses his story. His videos are all about him making memories and recording them in this way so he can look back upon them and remember these special times he has had. One of my favourite transitions he has done in the first video of 'Los Angeles' is the match cut. As we can see above, he goes from the shot of the Los Angeles pier to a long building to a cliff side in the same particular size. This means when he goes from cut to cut, it fits because the shots look almost the same. He also does the flip shots where at the end of every shot, he flips the camera from left to right and then the same again with the next shot, he films and the quickly flips the camera from left to right and he stitches these together so it looks like one smooth shot except its two going from place to place.
The opening shot of this same video is of Gabriele's wife; Jess. She closes her eyes and the minute she closes her eyes, the screen goes black as if we closed our eyes with her. Again this is a creative and very different way of using transitions effectively yet it really works as it looks visually stunning for the audience.
NikkyyHD
NikkyyHD is a 3D Generalist, Editor, Animator, Modeler and Designer. Her software proficiency she uses is: Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, AutoDesk AutoCad, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3DS Max, Davinci Resolve, Cinema 4D, Mocha and NextLimit Realflow. She is also a professional Script and Expression writer using JavaScript and Python. She is from the United States and started her career from her passion by making products and publishing them on YouTube. She then started to take enquires and commissions from YouTube and her own website that she had made. She started her career by having commissions off of YouTuber's that play games for a living. These YouTuber's had seen her portfolio and decided to get a commission by sending her their gameplay on games such as Counter Strike Go or Call of Duty and Nikkyy then animated their gameplay and walkthrough into a 3D realistic world. She also adds music and makes the gameplay rock to the beat. This is what she quickly became famous for as she was very talented at it. The more commissions and products she created, the more famous she became due to becoming better over time. Her skill level is so high and broad that many companies wanted her to work for them instead of freelancing. Since then, Nikkyy has joined many partnerships and companies and has began making 3D, realistic advertisements that labels and shows the products made by the company. Shown below shows Nikkyy's subscriber count at 214,060 and uploads at 81. This is her professional portfolio that we can see has been developed over time.
What do I like so much about her work and why is she an inspiration to me?
I like how realistic she makes both the environment and the characters. I am not quite sure how she edits and gets the models and textures to look the way they do as she has never fully explained but, this is one of the reasons why I really admire her. Her work is different and unique tearing her apart from the industry, her work sets a whole new level of editing and animation. The fact that she can take a video of a gameplay and re-create that making the environment and characters from scratch where she can add in slow motion and filters or effects to the background, is out of this world. It has not been done before and no other freelancing editor can even come close to her level of skill. Like she said, she is self taught and even people who work for Disney and animation companies, it took them nearly there whole life of learning in education to be able to do what they can do but Nikkyy on the other hand, taught her self and it did not take her too long either.
Specific examples of NikkyyHD's portfolio:
Nikky uses a lot of particle effects in the software Adobe After Effects. She uses liquids, solids and dissolvable particles which allows her to connect to the environment she has on screen and even connect some particles to the beat of the music, for example, this title. This title shown above uses liquid particles which splatters at the drop beat of the background music. This is a very clever way of editing due to it attracting the eye of the audience. We as an audience, automatically listen more to the music when it matches with the visuals due to it making more sense.
This is another example of the particle effect due to the camera being flown through paused liquid and fire in the scene. This is such an original way of editing due to this not been seen in an portfolio before. Some people may have done this style in their portfolios before but the way that Nikky has done this with the 3D particles and the camera zooming through it, makes it look so different than anything before.
This screenshot shows the 3D realistic characters in the 3D environment that the editor has created. I like how real the characters look in this scene because it makes all the difference to the portfolio as it shows her improvement from other videos. I also like how the camera rotates around the characters to change from different viewpoints. The camera moves around and inside particles like it is in a 3D world, while also being able to fit with the music due to the beat and actions syncing with the different tones.
Blizzard Entertainment - Animated shorts
The reason I have chosen the short Overwatch character trailers in my showreels research is because of the animation and post production stages of them. I love how entertaining the shorts are. It keeps the audience engaged and entertained which makes them extremely excited for the game due to the advertisement of the shorts. The shorts attract all ages due to being so realistically animated with a strong storyline in each. I would say they mainly attract a younger audience more than anything but the way in which the cuts are put together flickering from one part of action to another, engages the audience to play the game. It makes the game look fun due to seeing a personal story for each and every character there is. It shows that the game creators know what they are doing due to creating personal stories showing the personality and skill of the character. We see everything that the character is capable of and more when faced against new enemies. I have put this in my showreels research because I believe that this is the route I would like to potentially go down in the future.
As you can see in the screenshot above, one of the animations that is used in the short 'Infiltration' is travel by smoke. The bad character dressed in black, uses smoke as a skill for moving and transporting from place to place without being seen. It means he can fly up buildings and walls and fit within small places. This key skill is specific to this character which excites the audience due to him being playable and not seen in any other game before.
As we can see by the two screenshots shown, the game is very modern due to using and exploring new technologies within the characters. We can see here that this character can look at security cameras around the world from her own armour. This can be a very useful skill also due to being able to locate the enemies at any time and any place. She can have a birds eye view on everything if she wants to. The way in which I like these shorts as well, is the way that this is put into a story showing the game in context as if it was a tv series or movie. This again will attract a wide ranged audience.
