Analysing screenshots from artists music videos

Updated: Dec 15, 2017

Firstly, I will be analysing specific examples and screenshots of Tom Heath's videos that he has created so far. I will then be comparing these screenshot analysis with other artists that he likes and that comes under the same music genre.

These screenshots are to look at the camera angles within the videos Tom has created.

This screenshot is his opening clip where he does an introduction to himself and the music video. We can see that he has chosen to use a close up/mid shot of him so you can really focus on what he is saying rather than getting lost in the background or his clothing.

This second screenshot shows a close/mid shot again of Tom but in another position showing him singing. Its not the most entertaining shot but it gives some visual to the audio of the song. Most of the shots in the videos Tom has got, are close ups or middle close ups of his face at different positions so you can just see him singing. Shown below are various screenshots of one of his favourite artists music videos.

This first screenshot shows the artist in the background rather than foreground. It is a good introduction to the artist instead of just showing a close up of him to start with. The dirt on the shovel that the artist is holding, gives a really good effect to the shot due to the artist being in a dirty, open area. The dirty shovel matches the environment that the artist is in and the fact that the shovel is in focus, may give deeper meaning into what the music video may be about.

This shot gives more meaning to the scene and what might be happening. The sign that the artist is wearing, says; 'the end is coming'. This gives relevance to the music video due to giving an insight into what the music video may be about. For example, heartbreak or misery that has been dramatised into something traumatic.

Shown below is the music video that Tom Heath has chosen. He wants to create something similar to this video.

He chose this music video because he likes how the extras in the scene come up to the artists with props to indicate what the lyrics are talking about. He likes how the artist is walking from scene to scene like one big lone time line shown as one big long shot.
