To start off my project, I looked at many concept ideas that linked with my interests. I have always had an interest in photography, videography, visual effects and I recently started graphics design as a hobby also. Videography, graphics design and visual effects was my main three subject areas in which I wanted to do a project on. I was leaning more towards doing something along the lines of graphics design as my FMP because of how much I enjoyed doing it. However, towards the end of my Specialist Study project, I came to the conclusion that creating movie posters, promotions and business cards was not enough to fill my project space. Graphics design is too broad and it is not a concept. This lead me to making my own business.
Once I had really thought about it, there is not one specific area of study I wanted to do. I enjoy it all. I have always had a passion for photography, I also love videography and graphics design. Therefore me and my mum recently started our own business dedicated to what we do best. Buy and sell bath bombs. From a young age, me and my mum have always done our own little stalls at boot fairs around the country. It started off by selling a lot of rubbish and junk in our house that we didn't want anymore, it then turned into buying and selling e-cigarrete liquids which was successful but was also a big challenging market.
Me and my mum have also always bought bath bombs and cosmetics from a young age as it was a fun thing to do, therefore, we decided to have our own professional business starting out with buying and selling from Ancient Wisdom to selling at multiple boot fairs. This started off as a great success. Our first stall selling only bath bomb products gave us a great £200 profit.
From this point on wards, we have been learning and making our own candles, bath bombs and other products as well as selling Ancient Wisdom products. Once we have an entire range of new products that we have creatively hand-made ourself, we will no longer buy and sell from Ancient Wisdom as we will be our own freelancing business. The idea of this project is to make my business fully-functioning by creating a Wix website where we will be selling the products, create a Instagram and Facebook dedicated to the business and finally, create our own business cards, posters/leaflets and do all of the photography and slow-motion videos to advertise on the website and social medias. In the future we play to do motion graphics on social media to entice more customers. We hand our business cards out at the different stalls we host and ask if they would give us a like, follow and share on the social medias. I may also end up making my own Facebook banner and logo for the company.
We will also later attend to various events to get our company out in the industry and recognised.
Now I have my project concept which is my bath bomb and cosmetic business called; Sudz, I need to put a strong plan in place in order to complete my set tasks by the deadline of the project.
WEEK 1
Starting Monday 19th March
I have created mind maps and mood boards, as initially was not sure of a final idea. I started gaining inspirations and thoughts about what I can do as a project concept, until me and my mum decided to create our own business. We are going to be buying and selling bath bombs, soaps and other bath essences and sell them on multiple boot fair stalls. We have named our bath bomb business Sudz and for my project concept, I want to make this business fully functional for it to be successful and earn profit. To start off my project, I did a SWOT analysis to see my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that will be involved in the project and I began to write a problem sheet, contingency plan and pro forma to see the risks that are going to occur and how I may prevent them. I will continue this paper work within the second week also to plan my project ahead.
WEEK 2
Starting Monday 26th March
Feeding forward during this second week, I will be finishing my contingency plan and risk assessments then start my secondary research on similar products already on the market with companies like Lush.
I will be analysing the products and comparing them to ours.
I then need to be looking into business on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram.
WEEK 3
Starting Monday 2nd April
Still working on the social media sites, I need to book out the photo studio so I can then start creating pre-production work such as shooting schedules.
I will also create story boards to give me structure and guidance, and look at risk assessments .Then reflect on what I have achieved in the first 2 weeks, making sure I am on track with what iv'e done and i'm on schedule.
WEEK 4
Starting Monday 9th April
Having booked the photo studio for this week my plan will be creating test shoots, experimenting in what looks good, angles, lighting and what makes a good image.
I will be analysing my products and experimenting hopefully using different affects.
By the end of the week I plan to have created some great images and edits.
WEEK 5
Starting Monday 16th April
Having completed some photo shoots and experimented with some edits moving forward this week I will create tutorials and voice overs for my shoots and edits to explain how i achieved them and why i did them.
Then moving on to create my interim presentation allowing myself some time to think carefully about the presentation.
WEEK 6
Starting Monday 23rd April
This week my main focus will be on video shoots.
I plan to work on video's and photo's so I have plenty of images and video's of my products.
Creating the social media sites will be the next step as to taking time to getting this right will be crucial.
WEEK 7
Starting Monday 30th April
Having created the social media sites, I now need to finalise my photo shoots and evaluate the shoots before and after editing them.
I then need to edit my video shoots making sure the exact ones are right for each product.
WEEK 8
Starting Monday 7th May
Working on my presentation I need to finalise this to the standard I'm happy with, practise it and present my presentation on 14/05/18.
I will then work on my last evaluations and conclusions, I will use Microsoft Sway or PowerPoint to do this.
Use of Kanbanflow
I began to set out a plan with Kanbanflow, making use of the columns, and colour coordinated the subjects.
However I found it very confusing and complicated with to many columns and colours therefore I decided to create a contingency plan and production schedule instead of using this.
My production schedule I found done the same thing and allowed me to keep to my plan with less complications and I found this worked for me.
Although I did not get along with Kabanflow, their are useful elements to it such as setting self timers to make sure you get your work done and organised.
Shown above is a quick plan that I have drawn for a potential design of what my online shop may look like. I want their to be animation maybe in the header, a title or logo when I create one, a slideshow of images and I want it to be colour coordinated so it looks very pleasing. I think my audience would love this quick design sketch as it is creative, professional and easy to use with the tabs at the top. I will have a home page, about page gifts page, bundles and all products page where they can view every product we sell.
